Led by the mayor and business leaders, a mob forced Tacoma's entire Chinese community out of the city and later burned their homes-a coordinated expulsion celebrated at the time as 'the Tacoma Method.'

On November 3, 1970, Guam held its first gubernatorial election under the 1968 Elective Governor Act, choosing Carlos G. Camacho — the first leader the people of Guam had selected themselves since Spanish colonization began in 1668. He was inaugurated January 3, 1971.
On November 3, 1986, the Compact of Free Association between the United States and the Federated States of Micronesia took effect, ending U.S. trusteeship over the FSM and making it a sovereign nation whose citizens may live and work in the U.S. without a visa.
