Nisei Soldiers Awarded the Congressional Gold Medal
On November 2, 2011, Congress awarded its highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal, collectively to the Japanese American soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and the Military Intelligence Service — recognizing, decades late, the extraordinary service of Nisei who fought for the U.S. even as their families were incarcerated.
