United States v. Ju Toy Decided
On May 8, 1905, the Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Ju Toy that a person of Chinese descent claiming U.S. citizenship could be denied entry and expelled based solely on an immigration official's decision, with no right to judicial review. The ruling stripped due process from Chinese Americans — even citizens — and sharply curtailed their access to the federal courts.
